Finally, some rain!

I never thought I'd say it but I'm actually feeling sun fatigue. And I'm sure I'll live to regret this... but I'm actually glad it's raining. I hope it buckets down all night. And all day tomorrow. And all day the next... (largely because I'm off to the Melbourne Flower Show in the morning to see what's hot in garden design across the ditch in '08. Last year it was blue-dyed bark mulch (yikes) and fake plastic green (double yikes)...)
My garden isn't too parched despite the long hot summer, because (a) it's quite shady and (b) I decided in December that my Christmas present to myself was going to be a big fat bill from Metrowater. (When you're trying to establish new trees and shrubs, a constant supply of water is a must.) But even so, nothing beats a natural shower. And fingers crossed that all this water will help to wash all the mushy figs and bird poo off my deck. The waxeyes and blackbirds have had a fig feeding frenzy this summer. And the sods scoffed all the pears too.

Auckland weather ths summer has been unusually dry and although the grass browned off, the recent rain has turned it back to a respectable green. The dry spell gave me the chance to dry out the old bar and renew the spouting with the aim of hooking up a large tank to collect water for the garden. Anything bigger than 5,000litres should do it, so just need some luck with trademe and the weather!
